I wanted to solve the problem among users with different streaming platforms that want to actively collaborate and share their playlists. For example, this will allow Spotify members to collaborate his or her music with anyone that is signed up on Apple Music. I have researched applications and websites that have similar concepts but have not successfully created an intuitive user experience.
Process
Interviews and Survey
I conducted a survey and personal interviews to begin my research and exploration. Due to my constraints and limitations, I focused on targeting a specific demographic of users ranging from early to mid-20’s that are actively using a music streaming platform. Since I am conducting a personal project, I have limitations to my resources. I was able to interview 10 individuals and conduct a survey with 25 individuals.
Competitor Analysis
My goal for my competitor analysis is to determine any existing features that is already in the market and to find gaps within the competitors platform that can be improved. There were two “competitors” that have similar concepts and features with my application design.
The first one is Soundshare which is an application that, similarly to my concept, allows users with different streaming platforms share music. The second platform is Soundsgood.co which is a web-based platform where you can share music and playlists.
Persona
Low-Fidelity Prototypes
When I was initially designing the wireframes and mockups, I was trying to create different experiences for the users. I created different screens with varying features. During my prototyping process, I realize that I was not focusing on creating the best collaborative experience which was my initial goal instead I was trying to cater to all of the features. I then focused on creating an intuitive for users by spending more time testing the interface of the collaborative playlist screens. My final prototype highlights users collaborative experience.
